Vibrant Digital Acrylic Portrait from Photographs
Vibrant Digital Acrylic Portrait from Photographs
Materials:
This custom Digital Acrylic Portrait Painting from Photography celebrates the personality of your spouse, partner, colleague or friend:
- it's a true painted likeness from your video or photos
- celebrates the personality and energy of the subject
- blends modern and classical aesthetics on canvas
- combines mixed media - digital acrylics and physical acrylics on canvas
- optionally, sands local to you or Wiltshire sandstone, gold leaf or platinum leaf
All the portrait paintings you can see in my gallery come from real subjects who commissioned a portrait, or from a show I was commissioned to paint for the Cure Parkinsons Trust.
MATERIALS AND SIZES
I blend digital painting and sands, and stipple in modern mixed media, including silica sands and precious metals. I love combining these conventional and modern materials. I work only in substances that are colour-fast beyond a century - such as Golden, Schmincke, Winsor and Newton and Ultrachrome digital inks. And of course, silica sands and precious metals last forever. For me, painting in these mixed media enables the work to emote and scintillate while remaining grounded, which is what a portrait should do. I savour the thrill of finding a loving likeness in light and materials and to feel the soul of the subject in the work.
When I work with gold leaf or platinum leaf, I overlay them creatively to highlights of the painting, integrating it with the composition.
I paint your portrait to any size you like. From a foot to nearly a couple of metres. It's entirely down to your preference and wall space. I paint vertical, horizontal, cinematic, (2.35:1) golden mean (1.62:1), even square aspect ratios. If you need a special size or ratio just let me know, otherwise, I'll suggest one for you.
AUTHENTICITY
I include a hologrammed Certificate of Authenticity on all works, and a separate certificate of materials, including any precious metals you may have selected. So you can be sure of quality, endurance and provenance.
PROCESS
I start a simple dialogue by email with all my clients to know exactly what you want and the character and traits of the subject. I paint children, adults, animals, the living, the passed-on. Good, high definition pictures are super-helpful here, and they really allow me to make your portrait sing. The better the photos, the better the final result. I invite you to submit different images so I can get a fuller sense of the shape and character of the face - particularly the eyes, mouth, nose and hair. Smiling, pose, light, colour - these are all up for discussion.
Together, we decide the look and setting for your painting, and I encourage you to think visually - would you like hints of drama, composure or heroism, or do you prefer elegant realism? Where you've selected sands or precious metals, we'll discuss their symbolism, subtlety and aesthetic.
I invite you to stay as involved as you like in the painting process, sharing progress as I go, so you can be sure that you get exactly what you want. Feel free to ask me anything as we proceed together. I love my clients and I always want you to be happy.
Prior to shipping your painted portrait, I send you a photo for your approval. This is your final chance to suggest any changes and comment on the portrait, and I really want you to be happy with it. No change request is too small. If you're satisfied with the portrait after viewing this photo, I'll release the portrait to the shippers.
TIMESCALES
My portrait painting process takes around 10-15 days when I'm working with acrylics, and a few days longer when I'm working with precious metals but sometimes I'm overbooked so it can take a little longer. I always let you know timescales before I start.
FRAMING
I always ship your painting unframed. Mainly to speed the process for you, and reduce the shipping and insurance costs. But also to allow you time to reflect on the work at your end, before making a framing choice. I'm really happy to guide you on framing. For example, white, light or plainer frames often work well with spacious, airy or subtle portraits, whereas ornate or darker frames work well with more contrasting or intense artwork. And of course there's the room and its light to think about too. Just send me photos and I can guide you.
SHIPPING
The shipping price is estimated - basically it's impossible to know the true cost until the final crate dimensions are weighed and measured and then it goes to the shipping firm. So to save you hassle and complexity, I make a small allowance for packaging and shipping in my price, and add the remainder at the point of shipping. I hope you're ok with that.
