This limited edition Digital Acrylic painting celebrates the energy of 'Above', the concept of the masculine. It's intended for the therapy room wall, or anywhere there's self-reflection or spiritual work to be done.
Rooted in Greek, Native American and Maori myths, even in Mesopotamian poetry, there's the story of the earth and the sky being mother and father to all life; Mother Earth and Father Sky. We all contain both masculine and feminine energy, some have more of one than the other. Masculine energy is said to be stable, predictable, its strengths are willpower, clarity, and focus. The masculine likes to create structures and rules, so it knows how to apply logic correctly.
I wanted to capture both a sense of recognition of the masculine, and also a hailing, a calling for it. The model here is Kevin, a wonderful spiritual friend who I painted at a sitting in Bristol. I used videography to capture the pose and expression, and then digital acrylics to blend modern and classical aesthetics into this painting.
